Dressing our kids in second-hand children’s clothing, is a really easy and affordable way of making fashion more sustainable.
We Brits are bringing up our kids in a throw away culture, if stats are to be believed. Oxfam reports that 11 million items of clothing go to landfill every single week in the UK. And two-thirds of the childrenswear market is made up of value brands such as Primark and the supermarkets. Childrenswear, in it’s very nature, has the least number of wears per garment, so this leads to a very unsustainable model.
Thankfully there has been a rise of independent brands producing high quality ethical children’s clothing. The net result is that there are lots of gorgeous preloved children’s clothes to be snapped up at very reasonable prices. There are lots of facebook groups and community groups where you can get hold of good quality second-hand children’s clothing at great prices. But these can be location dependent. So I’d like to share with you a selection of great second-hand children’s clothing online boutiques, where you can find high quality clothing at great prices.
So here’s my list of where to buy gorgeous children’s second-hand clothing online:
16 Second-Hand Children’s Clothing Brands
Slof (Slow Fashion For Kids)
I discovered online second-hand children’s clothing brand, Slof, a couple of years ago. I wanted to buy my niece some ethical clothing, but didn’t have the budget to buy from a brand that I felt comfortable purchasing from. Sometimes being a sustainable blogger can be frustrating! But Slof had exactly what I was looking for, and I bought my niece a tutu skirt for a mere £12.
Founder, Lisa, has a well curated choice of really beautiful designer second-hand children’s clothes at great prices. Think Mini Rodini, Molo, Stella Maccartney and more. At Slof you can shop second-hand clothes, shoes & accessories for girls and boys aged 0 – 6 years.

Little Cactus & Co
Little Cactus & Co have a great selection of vintage denim and dungarees. And not just any dungarees, they specialise in high quality brands such as Oshkosh & Levi’s.
Founder Nat, mum to Finn, was alarmed at the rate at which her son was getting through clothes. And she remembers owning a pair of Oshkosh dungarees which she wished she had kept for her son. So, she started sourcing high quality second-hand denim and dungarees that can be passed from sibling to sibling, friend to friend. This is how Little Cactus & Co was born.
Personally, I love dressing the kids in dungarees. For both the cute & practical factor. They’re tough, sturdy & utterly timeless in style. Plus they are garments that kids can really be kids in.
Little Cactus & Co also sells sustainable toys alongside the vintage denim & there is a buy-back scheme to make things more circular.

Dotte
Join the circular fashion movement with Dotte. You can buy and sell second hand children’s clothes on this website. They stock household favourites such as Mini Rodini, Bobo Choses, Zara and Arket. And if you have clothes that the kids have absolutely destroyed, then you can also recycle them through Dotte too for a small fee. I’m planning to sell some of my children’s clothes on here soon, so watch this space.

Archie Fuzz
Let your child’s imagination run wild with personalised statement jackets from Archie Fuzz*. Rachel is the sewing whizz behind this business. She sources secondhand jackets which she will then upcycle with scraps of fabric in your own design. You could request your child’s name, word, flower, rainbow… the world really is your oyster. All the scraps of fabric used in Daisy, Laurie & Clara’s jackets are left over bits from costumes in the theatre where Rachel volunteers. She uses not only uses them to make these fabulous jackets but also additional scraps are given to locals who also make things from them. Such a great example of reusing and recycling.
These are jackets to be treasured and once my kids have grown out of them, I think they will look amazing up on their bedroom wall as a piece of art.

Tot Swap
Did you know “23% of Londoner’s clothes are sitting in closets unworn.” Well Emma, founder of Tot Swap is trying to redress this fact, excuse my terrible pun. With her second hand swap and shop soon to open in North London. She stocks the names we all love, Boden, Ralph Lauren, Converse and John Lewis. Great quality preloved kids clothes at incredible prices. And, also crucially second-hand maternity clothes. Because let’s face it, you wear maternity clothes for such a short time, it’s much more sustainable to buy them second hand.
You can either buy from Tot Swap on Instagram @totswapshop, from the NEW website or from their real bricks and mortar store in Blue House Yard, Wood Green. You can also donate high quality clothes from most brands except supermarkets and discount stores. 70% of the sale of donated stock will be reinvested into the local community by way of cash provisions for families in need.

Little Raine Preloved Drops
I love it when a husband is seriously proud of their wife’s work. And that was how I discovered Little Raine PreLoved Drops. Founder, Serena’s, husband contacted me on Instagram to introduce me to his wife’s Instagram page. He described it as their contribution to helping people to be a little more eco-friendly, and encouraging a circular economy.
Serena has a gorgeous selection of preloved goodies from her kids Theo & Orla. We got the denim jacket, Cath Kidston dress and trainers from Serena. And, I have to confess, I am still slightly jealous of Daisy’s Stan Smith’s.

Monstrous Vintage Kids
For something a bit different head to Monstrous Vintage Kids. As the name suggests they sell beautiful vintage children’s clothes at reasonable prices. Though there is an online store, probably the best way to shop their clothing is to check in daily with their Instagram account @monstrousvintagekids, as things tend to sell out quickly. Because these are vintage clothes, there are often older sizes available. I’ve seen pieces up to age 11 years.
Little Legs Vintage
For some more seriously adorable vintage kids clothing have a look at Little Legs Vintage. Think little smocked dresses, vintage cartoon T shirts, trousers with braces, little shirts and antique dresses that have lovingly been given a new lease of life. Little Legs Vintage sells on instagram or online.
Loopster
No blog post about second-hand children’s clothes would be complete without a mention of Loopster. I wrote about them before Christmas, and they are a fantastic brand due to the sheer volume of high-quality second-hand children’s clothing they stock. Also that they go up to age 8 in both boys and girls. With brands such as John Lewis, Boden and Polarn O. Pryet and prices from £1.50 it is worth keeping an eye on them. Also, they also have a selection of beautiful Petit Bateau previous season or seconds clothing. Their whole ethos is about extending the lifecycle of clothing and avoiding landfill.

There are lots of lovely second-hand children’s clothing brands that exist and new ones are popping up daily. If you have a moment have a look at Family Affaire , The Octopus Club, Cub Classics & be diddy all brands I discovered this week.
Do You Have High Quality Second-Hand Children’s Clothing To Sell?
If you have good quality stylish second-hand children’s clothing to sell, it is worth contacting these brands. This way the circular economy can continue and less clothes will end up in landfill.
This list is by no means comprehensive, so if there’s an online second hand clothing boutique you love that I’ve left out, do comment below or one you drop me a line . Also, if you are after adults second-hand clothing then check out this blog post here.

Hi Petra,
I am SO glad you found this blog post useful, Slof has some fabulous pieces. It sounds like our little ones are the same age, my youngest has just turned 20 months, such a gorgeous age isn’t it.
Thanks

Great article! There really is a preloved revolution underway and I believe that in the next few years shopping second-hand will become the norm, it’s a very exciting time and can only be better for the planet 🙂
Could I give a mention to my brand Buildabundle too please (www.buildabundle.co.uk) – established in 2018 we have over 6,000 items of second-hand clothes from tiny baby up to age 14, plus maternity. Thank you x
Love this article! I think there’s a revolution coming, the normalisation of buying and wearing second hand clothes would be a great result. It’s a difficult campaign through when buying second hand can be so disappointing! Ebay can be a minefield, it’s expensive and often items sold on there are damaged or stained and as a buyer you have very little comeback. I set up Peachy Kids to try and take the risk out of buying second hand. All our items are scrupulously quality checked, if they don’t stand up to the halogen lamp test they don’t get uploaded to the website! I’m that fastidious! But as a parent I want to buy clothes when I need them and I want them to turn up ready to wear, not in need of a wash and iron. I think the people buying from me deserve to get the best quality and they buy form me because the product they receive is beautifully packaged and presented like new. It’s all about changing peoples perceptions and helping people to see that good quality, excellent condition second hand clothing can look, feel and last so much better than fast fashion items.

Hi Anna, you are so right about buying second hand being a minefield. I totally agree & I actually avoid eBay for that very reason. It’s why I wrote this post as there are preloved clothing brands clearly like yours that are taking such care over garments & that are really worth buying from. I’m off to check out Peachy Kids now, thanks for telling me about your brand! Karen X
Love this! Just wish they all went up to much bigger sizes!
