This week I was reminded just how murky the world of the beauty industry is. A well-known, luxury, brand pitched a job to me to advertise a new night time anti-aging facial cream. When I researched the brands ethos and ethics there was nothing tangible to be found. But what I did find was: an incomprehensible ingredients list, extortionate price tag and promises of youthful looking skin. Needless to say I didn’t accept the job. So instead, I thought I’d tell you about an equally luxurious brand, but one with transparency and respect for our environment at its heart. Introducing organic skincare brand, ami iyök.
Ami iyök is a luxury organic skincare brand that began in Barcelona 4 years ago. They combine organic and natural with high tech ingredients to create award-winning cosmetics. Their products cover everything you might need for your face and body and they even sell pet soap!
For the past month I’ve been using ami iyök’s Green Shaman Bio-facial cleanser gel & Ultrarich Dream intensive repair night cream.
Ultrarich Dream | Intensive Repair Night Cream
Made from Shea butter, argan oil, olive oil, sacha inchi oil and almond oil (amongst other ingredients), this Ultrarich Dream Intensive Repair Night Cream really is ultrarich! It has the look and texture of (dare I say it!) Vaseline but without any of the grease or petroleum and it hasn’t remotely blocked my pores or given me spots. It is deeply moisturising and nourishing, and perfect for aging, exhausted mama skin. The Lavender in it gives it a wonderful aroma, perfect to massage into your skin before a good night’s sleep, children permitting!
Green Shaman | Bio-Facial Cleanser Gel
Recently I’ve switched to oil based cleansers as I’ve found them much better at removing make up and cleansing my skin and keeping it moisturised all at the same time! I can’t bare that skin taut feeling after using soap. ami iyök’s Green Shaman Bio-facial Cleanser Gel is an oil-based gel that contains only organic ingredients. It has castor oil for cleansing, sacha inchi oil as an antioxidant and spirulina with its firming properties. The presence of hyaluronic acid complements the slow aging process as it adds moisture and elasticity. Commonly hyaluronic acid is made from an animal source, however ami iyök have chosen to use a hyaluronic acid from plant fermentation.

Slow Aging
ami iyök promote the idea of slow aging rather than anti aging. Which I find a much more honest approach. Because, unless your planning cosmetic surgery no cream is going to completely reverse the signs of aging. Let’s face it we are all getting older and so is our skin, excuse the pun!
Certified Organic Ingredients
All ami iyök’s products are certified by Natrue and EcoControl GmbH, both of which guarantee products used within it are organic and natural. If understanding exactly what % of the ingredients are organic vs. natural is important to you, then please note this information isn’t instantly available on their packaging. However, when asked they were very happy to tell me that both of the products I have been using have 75% certified organic ingredients, 20% natural and 5% natural derivative.
Eco-friendly packaging
Their packaging is innovative and there isn’t a hint of plastic in sight! The externals are made from black poplar wood from controlled plantations (FSC) it is recyclable and looks brilliant. The actual creams themselves are encased in violet glass jars, which restricts light so increases the shelf life and effectiveness of their products. They are of course recyclable or you could easily reuse them.

For the first time in my 37 years, I am struggling with bad skin so I am in the market for products that work but I really do not want to put chemicals on my skin.

Now everyone’s skin is different, but I’ve always found that my skin gets oily when it is dehydrated. It’s like my skin is creating oil to compensate, so I have actually found using oil based cleansers that don’t strip my skin and then a really good moisturiser the best solution. And as you know I always advocate using organic and natural ingredients and knowing what you are putting on your skin.
