Twas The Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse, “squeak squeak.” If you grew up in our family, that‘s how Clement Clarke Moore’s poem goes. You see ever since we were small every Christmas Eve, we sat round the fire, with our stockings and my Dad read us this poem. It’s a family tradition we’ve continued with Daisy and Laurie.

This year it’ll be Laurie’s first Christmas, which is more significant for us than him. But there are certain items he’ll need to take part. Firstly, a Stocking, to hang “by the chimney with care”. My sisters and I were given my mum’s knitted stockings, but both Laurie’s & Daisy’s are from Mamas & Papas. They are beautifully crafted with an applique star and embroidered owl, and will be pulled out every Christmas for years to come.

Some pyjamas and socks to “nest all snug in their beds.” Daisy has these beautiful traditional red checked pjs from Mamas & Papas. I approve, as there’s no horrible cartoon characters on them. Like all second children Laurie’s in a hand me down Christmas baby grow that has done x 4 cousins, Daisy and now him. Poor boy.

In anticipation of the “sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas too” I’ve let them each have an early Christmas present. A Christmas fairy rag doll, for Daisy, which thankfully has all it’s clothes attached. She’s currently in the habit of stripping all her dollies naked. For Laurie a bauble, marking the fact that this is his very first Christmas.

Now all we need to do is wait for “a miniature sleigh, with eight tiny reindeer”
