The Victorian Corset

The Victorians wore corsets, we wear shape wear. Well, most women who’ve had babies do. Thankfully technology has moved on in the past few centuries and also our notion of normalcy. I measured my daughter’s,Daisy’s, waist the other day, and at 19” it comes out 1 inch bigger than the Victorian ideal and she’s 2. Nuts.

Whilst the Victorian ideology was unachievable, having a waist is something I long for again. Since getting pregnant highwaisted trousers, waisted skirts and short tops have all been verbatim. And I’m itching to be able to wear them. If I have to buy one more oversized item of clothing that is long enough to cover up my bum and thighs I might scream. Sorry for the superlative, I think you get my point.

So I’ve opted for wearing a modern day corset, otherwise known as a Belly Bandit. It’s a spandy wrap that you wear under your clothes that really holds you in. The great thing about it is that it conceals the lumps and bumps, including my post C-section double tummy. Yes Laurie was a natural birth, but the effects of having Daisy have lingered. The claim is that it ‘helps tighten and shrink your belly, waist and hips post pregnancy’. Will it work? Possibly not with the amount of Dairy Milk chocolate I’ve consumed today. But we will know in a couple of month’s time. So for now I’ll leave you with some pictures of how my tummy looks now. Eeek.

PS I’ve measured my waist and the fattest part of my hips today so I have actual facts to go on. But I won’t be revealing them, as no one needs to know my real size!

Belly Bandit have a whole range of pre & post pregnancy shape wear, to read about what I wore during pregnancy please click here.
