The trials & pitfalls of trying to live sustainably | eco –

eco-

Trying to live more sustainably in a world that glorifies convenience is a bit like being on a diet in a sweet shop. Yep this is pretty much how I’ve felt since embarking on my eco-friendly journey. And I call it a journey, because that’s what it is. It’s been a slow transition of looking at our life, seeing the day to day wastage and then trying to find realistic alternatives.

Those of you who are regular readers, will know that I’ve looked at where to cut single use plastic in our kitchen and also our bathroom. But, there is still so much to do. And without a doubt, the eco alternative has always been harder to track down, more expensive and often its quality unknown. Which is why when I come across a well researched website, that does all the hard work for you, I jump for joy. eco- is one such site.

What is eco-?

Founded by David Douek, eco- is an online market place designed to help make your quest to live sustainably easy. Though not a shop itself, it is a carefully curated selection of everyday eco-friendly essentials with links to where you can buy them from.

How does eco- help?

Recently we’ve been hunting for a new dummy for our son Laurie. Yes, he is 2, but we still need it for emergencies which are far more frequent than you might imagine! It had been on my to do list underneath doing the food shop, calling the mice catcher and putting the umpteenth basket of washing away. Let’s be honest, researching an eco-friendly dummy was never going to happen. Thankfully eco- has an entire category dedicated to busy parents just to save us time.n4mummy's son using his Hevea eco-friendly dummy from eco-

eco- saves you time

Yes whether it’s an eco-friendly dummy, reusuable nappies, biodegradable wipes or even a new buggy, eco- will direct you straight to the sustainable versions. Meaning you have plenty of extra time to do your nails, read a book (oh please!) or more likely, drink an entire cup of tea. Heaven.

eco – does the research for you

Sustainability is becoming trendy. It’s without a doubt the word for 2018. Every company worth its salt has their sustainability policy which sadly in some cases don’t amount to much. Greenwashing is becoming prolific. So the challenge I find is cutting through the cr*p to work out if a product/company really does care about the environment or if it’s just a PR stunt. The great thing about eco- is that David and his team have done all the research for you and they explain why a product is eco-friendly in simple terms.

eco- educates

eco- enlightened me to the fact that Laurie’s eco-friendly dummy is made from natural rubber and that rubber trees don’t need to be cut down to be harvested. Also, the brand Hevea that eco- recommends upcycle old pacifiers into new products. On eco- you can search for products by category or by material type and there is even a great article, “The Ultimate Guide To Zero-Waste” which has an entire A-Z of exactly how to go zero-waste.

eco- sustainable consumption made easy

I won’t lie, at times trying to live sustainably has been really challenging and I have felt like chucking it all in. But this world is our responsibility, and is our heritage to our children, which is why I have ploughed on. Hence I am always grateful to come across an inherently useful website like eco-

Visit eco- website, or get to know them on facebook or pinterest

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with eco- however as always all opinions are my own and I purchased the dummy featured.
