I wrote this post before Twiglet made a surprise early arrival. That said I’d thought I’d share it with you anayway 😀
Lists, lists. Do you spend your life writing lists? Dr Husband claims I have two lists, column 1 and column 2. Things in column 1 happen immediately, whereas column 2 = will never happen. I confess packing my hospital bag has definitely fallen into column 2. The reality is if I pack the bag, then I actually have to have this baby. Aghhhh! Freak out.
Like all things in life I definitely think #lessismore when it comes to packing. Firstly the more you take with you the longer it takes to pack/unpack, and secondly there is nothing worse than having to rummage through your bags to find bits, particularly whilst in labour/waiting for a c section. So here are a few key bits that I’ll be taking with me to hospital, the grisly and the nice:
The Grisly Bits
For me
- Big old granny pants, this is not the time to worry about looking good.
- Maternity Pads, yuck.
- Seriously old T Shirt, to give birth in
- Nipple Cream, I’m trying a new version from Mother Care this time round which has 100% pure lanolin and is cheaper than the Lansinol alternative.
- Breast Pads, leaky boobs will be a reality.
- Breastfeeding bras
- Ear Plugs, I think a post-natal ward can only be described as hell on earth.
For Twiglet
- At least x 5 white baby grows and vests (borrow from a friend, they grow out of them in seconds)
- Hat & mittens, seriously does anyone actually use these after they get home from the hospital?
- Nappies
- Wipes
The Nice Bits
For me
- New! Breast Feeding PJ’s, post birth I want to do everything possible to feel nice, a tough challenge.
- Nursing sleep bras, I learnt from Daisy that it’s great to have a comfy bedtime bra that you can add pads to stop leakage.
- Leg and Foot Spray, I’ve been using this Bloom and Blossom version during pregnancy and I love the smell & how it relaxes me.
- A book, ok not for in labour but there’s a lot of lying around breast feeding post birth, and with Daisy I never get a chance to read anything.
- Toiletries, I’ll be including my new Pevonia sensitive skincare products which I’ve been using for the last few weeks. But more about them another time.
- Chocolate, clearly.
For Twiglet
- Baby Blanket, thankfully Mamas and Papas gave me this knitted grey one otherwise in a gender defiant moment, boy Twiglet would be arriving home in pink.
- Muslin’s. I am obsessed with super sized muslins and bought these from Mamas and Papas.
- Going home outfit, he’s number two so I’m afraid so far I haven’t bought anything special.
- A present for Daisy, from Twiglet. I need her on side from day 1!
Can I just say I did read my book, it was a real treat. And despite not wanting to take too much with me, I still took too much!
