A Christmas Party Dress To Last | The Open Road

It’s not very many sleeps until Christmas! But don’t fall into the trap of buying cheap synthetic party dresses for your little ones. Dresses that they’ll wear a couple of times and discard.

Buy Items That Can Be Passed Down

Every girl wants to look her best at this time, so if you’re going to buy something, buy something to last. Choose an item that can be passed down from sister to sister, to cousin to friend. Daisy has got some beautiful dresses that were made for my sisters and I all those years ago.

Indulge in Nostalgia

However the dress pictured is from The Open Road, an American online boutique that sells beautiful traditional handmade dresses. I love the smocking detail, lace lined Peter Pan collar and red tartan fabric, as reminds me of dresses I had as a child.

The Open Road | More Than Just a Dress Shop

Yet The Open Road has a greater purpose than just selling wonderful dresses. Owner Anitha Devadason, is passionate about providing real jobs for the seamstresses who make these garments. All the dresses are handmade by artisans in India. Their sale provides a way for these ladies to earn a living and provide for their families.

A Transparent Supply Chain

Anitha also believes a transparent supply chain is key. A lady called Mrs. Subhashini Raja of Baby’s Breath, gives the women the patterns and fabric to make these dresses. This means that they can work from home, continue to care for their children and make a living at the same time.
