The Faraway Gang | Beautiful Knitwear For Children

Despite the beautiful sunshine we’ve had recently, there’s a real chill in the air at the moment that signals that autumn is on its way. And I’ve found myself delving into the back of our wardrobes in search of knits for us all. So, today I thought it was the right time to introduce you to an utterly new, award winning children’s knitwear brand, The Faraway Gang. They produce jumpers for ages 4-7 years, which are perfect for bear hunts, blackberry picking and exploring. Oh and there’s a great discount, just keep on reading.

Who’s Behind The Faraway Gang?

The Faraway Gang is the brainchild of Sally Jackson, mum of two and knitwear designer extraordinaire. I can say this, as her debut range has already won her Gold in the ‘Best Children’s Knitwear Collection’ at the Junior Design Awards. Sally has worked as a knitwear designer at brands we know and love including Joules, Boden and Great Plains. Her husband Chris is the technical wizard behind the operation as well as an incredible support.

What’s To Love?

I’m pleased to say that The Faraway Gang is an antidote to the age-old unisex monochrome minimalism that has dominated Instagram for the past few years. Bright colours, in playful patterns are characteristic of this collection that truly is unisex. Daisy is a really girly girl, I’ve yet to get her in a pair of jeans. But, I’d have loved to have styled the jumpers on Laurie, just to show you how each really do work on a girl or boy. However, at aged two they really were too big for him. Just keep following me on Instagram and when he’s four I’ll do it. They are also beautifully made here in the UK and super soft and warm, but you’ll have to read on to find out more.

What Are The Jumpers Made From?

I often wax lyrical over 100% merino wool, and if you’ve ever worn it you’ll know why. In Daisy’s own words, these jumpers are “suuuupper soft and toasty warm.” I’ve always thought of merino as a bit of a magical yarn; it’s breathable, thermo regulating and it contains lanolin, which has antibacterial properties. Plus Merino wool is 100% natural, which means it is biodegradable. Big tick.

Are The Jumpers Washable?

This is always the first question my mum asks, can you throw a garment in the washing machine? And you’ll be glad to hear the answer is yes. You can either hand wash the jumpers or pop them in the machine on a wool wash at 30 degrees. Just never ever tumble dry wool. Or your jumper really will fit Laurie!

How Are They Made?

Well the jumpers are all made here in Britain to an incredibly high standard. You may know that I spent my former working years as a knitwear buyer, which makes me a complete knitwear geek. So the use of jacquard and intarsia to create wonderful designs really makes me smile. I love all the little motifs on the Stargazer jumper, alongside the clashing colours of pink orange and lime and the multi-coloured pattern of the Explorer version. Each knit has been cleverly designed not to be too bulky for children.

Giving Back

I always love a brand that seeks to give back as well as produce amazing knitwear. And for every jumper bought, The Faraway Gang has pledged to give £1 to Clear Sky Children’s Charity. This is a children’s mental health charity that focuses on using the Power of Play to transform children’s lives. Excellent.
