What does work look like for you? As a fashion blogger and mum I work from home, and the lines between work and life are frequently blurred. Living in a small London flat with two small children (!!) means work takes place anywhere I can find a clear surface. Take today, for example- our coffee table is littered with tablets, phones, notebooks, lists, beauty products and a precariously balanced glass of sparkling water.
But despite my miniature workspace, aesthetics are still really important; it should be a creative, inspiring place to develop ideas. I might not have my own desk yet (we are shortly due to move house) but the natural place to start is with beautiful stationery. There is nothing like inspiring design to kick start the brain into action, so much so at school I used to negotiate with my Dad for him to pay the price for a standard notebook and I’d pay the difference to buy the beautiful one. You see, work is just so much more enjoyable with stunning stationery.
Laura Ashley has just brought out this lovely hardback A5 notebook with a gorgeous copper pineapple print on it. I am currently a huge fan of monochrome interior design, and the copper metallic on the book complements this. The ball point pen that goes with the notebook adds further sparkle, but will have to be kept under lock and key, for it’s amazing how easily a nice pen develops legs and walks.
I love the current trend for Pineapples, the fruit of the moment that adds a little humour to our lives. Laura Ashley have also used it on a set of notelets, which would work well as thank you cards for those rare but increasingly precious gifts of a hand- written letter. They’ve also used it as a conversation print on wallpaper and created two wonderful feature table lamps. So when we’ve moved house and I get my much-needed desk, I may need one of those!
