As I write it is pouring with rain outside. I’ve just returned from having Daisy weighed and my socks are so soaked through that the dye from my black shoes has run onto them. I don’t know about you but I am longing for some sunshine, dry weather and for Spring to well and truly arrive?
One of the key SS15 colour trends is yellow. When a new “colour” hits our high streets its origin is usually a catwalk show. This season’s yellow trend could be attributed to Acne, Burberry Prorsum or Michael Kors, and yet have you ever noticed that a season’s colours are often a variation of what nature does? The yellow adopted this year could just as easily have been inspired by an egg yolk or a daffodil, all things that remind me of the start of Spring.
Recently I highlighted another key colour trend – blue. Now blue is a colour that is likely to already be in your wardrobe, but yellow, well that’s a totally different story. Most people would shy away from it as it is a colour that can easily wash you out. But, in anticipation of Spring’s arrival, I took the plunge and bought a yellow coat. Yes bright, egg yolk yellow! I thought a little colour would brighten up my own and maybe someone else’s day. They say a little colour goes a long way, so I have kept it simple and worn my coat with ripped denim jeans and a simple breton stripe top.
Designers may be able to dress their models head to toe in yellow, but I think the trick is to keep it simple. You could accessorise with a bag or shoe, or wear a one-off statement piece worn back with neutral colours.
