Clothing Retailers don’t want you to go in to their shop and buy a garment, their aim is to get you to buy an entire outfit. This Spring Summer the 1970’s trend is in every shop, and it can be tempting to buy an entire outfit in one shop, to do the 1970’s trend. The problem with this is that when you put your outfit on at home, you can feel like you’ve just stepped out of a fancy dress shop. The 1970’s outfit that looked so great in store looks, at best, a walking advert for Topshop, and at worst, gaudy and try hard in the cold light of day.
This is why I’ve adopted the motto ‘Something Old and Something New’ in my approach to shopping. It has nothing to do with marriage, rather taking the approach of buying one new item and teaming it with things I already have in my wardrobe, this way my outfit is an interpretation of the current 1970’s trend rather than a fancy dress mishap!
This week my aim was for a 1970’s outfit.
1970’s Outfit
For the “something new” I purchased a Felt Floppy Hat from Topshop £28 to give that 1970’s vibe to my outfit.
For the “something old” the dress is one I’ve had in my wardrobe for at least four years, I know this as I remember wearing it on a date with, my now, husband and we will celebrate our three year wedding anniversary this April! The dress was from River Island bought when the trend was for vintage dressing.
