Often I feel like I have nothing to wear, occasionally it’s actually true. This weekend we attended my cousin’s wedding in Oxford and I seriously had, nothing to wear. At #2monthspostpartum, I’m breastfeeding and still haven’t lost my baby weight. Whilst there were several things in my wardrobe that would have worked I couldn’t actually get them on, depressing.
What I needed was a breastfeeding friendly outfit. Several dresses fitted well, but the idea of retreating into a darkened room every time Laurie needed to feed wasn’t appealing. So I needed a two-piece outfit with a degree of stretch! It’s in situations like this that I turn to shops that cater for a wider audience. The type of shop where an elasticated waistband is the norm, rather than an exception.
This metallic pleated skirt is from M&S’s Limited Edition, and has that very essential elasticated waistband. Obviously it fits now, but hopefully I’ll also be able to wear it when I’ve stopped binging on chocolate, post breastfeeding. I love the fact it’s metallic as it makes it feel special.
The black jumper is something I’ve had for years. It’s from my days as a fashion buyer and was one my designer developed but never went into store. I’m a big fan of its oversized bell sleeves, which feels very relevant now. Just goes to show it’s worth hanging on to things you love and that suit you, even if they aren’t ‘on trend’.
The nude kitten heels are ones you’ve seen many times, a wardrobe staple that can be worn on many different occasions. I’ve just had them rehealed and tarted up by our local cobbler, as it’s a great way to extend the life of a pair of shoes you love.
What are your suggestions for wedding/party outfits whilst breastfeeding?
