I once read that Alexa Chung said she “couldn’t own too many white cotton shirts” and that she thought she had approximately twenty in her wardrobe. Whether that’s true or not remains unknown, but I own three and this season that number could be set to rise.
A button down cotton shirt is such an easy wardrobe staple. It’s trans-seasonal, timeless and like all our favourite garments comes in all different sizes and styles to flatter every shape. A shirt is perfect for wearing when you’re nursing, no complicated openings or getting tangled up with your bra strap and nursing top. I own one longline shirt for days when my bum does look big in this! One oversized shirt that I picked up from a market in Korea, to wear back with my super skinny jeans. And my husband lent me his white shirt when I was pregnant, which I still haven’t given back 🙂 The occasion when a white shirt becomes totally defunct, is when weaning your child or perhaps doing painting or play dough!
You can wear a white shirt in so many different ways, keep it casual by layering it up underneath a jumper or sweatshirt. Then wear it back with your skinny jeans and trainers.
Alternatively you could smarten the look up by removing the jumper and adding a longline duster jacket? The longline shape of duster jacket is very flattering as it hides every lump and bump of post baby fat or afternoon bingeing on chocolate/cake to help stay awake – I am very guilty of that!
The one time I would definitely remove my white shirt is when weaning your child! The only item of clothing I can recommend then is overalls!
