This is my second year of trying to make sustainable choices when I shop and I’ll be honest, it isn’t easy. I spend far too much time searching online for ethical, zero waste retailers, only to find tiny companies whose products may vary in quality. However, I think I may have found a solution. You see, Wearth London is set to change all this. For Wearth London is one of the first contemporary online eco-conscious department stores. But do keep reading, as there’s a great discount and a chance to win my necklace!
Ethos First
All of the products stocked by Wearth London are ethical, eco-friendly, vegan and cruelty free. Plus they place a real emphasis on transparency. Wearth London has meticulously researched every item; from the ingredients used, where and how each product is made and even the packaging it comes in. In short they’ve done all the hard work for us and we just can go to one place to shop wearthlondon.com
So What `Does Wearth London sell?
Wearth London sells a whole range of inherently useful and beautiful items, ranging from natural beauty products, recycled jewellery to zero waste living and even furniture. This is the place to buy your bamboo toothbrush, organic facemask, reusable water bottle, recycled silver jewellery, or even a new coffee table. There are over 30 brands that are predominantly British made, which is great from a carbon footprint perspective.
A Focus on Recycled Materials
One of the first things I noticed about this store was their focus on using recycled materials, particularly in their jewellery and furniture departments. But remove from your mind ideas of traditional up cycling or shabby chic; all Wearth items are decidedly contemporary. They sell pieces you’d love to wear or have in your home.
Why Recycled Jewellery?
Now I am a huge fan of fine jewellery: I regularly layer up necklaces and rings as I think it gives an outfit that little something extra. But why buy recycled jewellery? Well, one of the key problems with buying silver or gold is that the mining of these precious metals is fraught with issues from both an environmental and human rights perspective. If you’re interested in learning more, do click on this link to watch a very short (1 min) video from Human Rights Watch. So, this is one reason that Wearth London stocks only jewellery made from recycled silver. The other is that it is a great way to repurpose unwanted jewellery without using more of our earth’s natural resources.
The “Be Kind” Necklace
All the jewellery in Wearth London’s collection is handmade in the UK by independent designers. My “Be kind” necklace was made by Kate Wainwright in her home studio in West Sussex. It came beautifully wrapped in a recyclable cardboard box with a personal message from Kate herself. I was able to choose the length of the chain and select from two mantras “be kind” or “breathe”. Either would have been relevant to me (!) but I do find it a useful reminder, particularly when I’m tired. There is also an option to have your own bespoke name or good intention hand stamped, which would make a wonderful present. In fact there are many items within this store that I would gladly receive as a present as it is all so beautifully presented. For a few other gift ideas please click here.
There is often the misconception that things that are ethical or eco-friendly are more expensive but as this shop proves this doesn’t have to be the case. So, if you are looking for sustainable alternatives for everyday items, then do head over to Wearth London because they really have made it easy.
