Ever since Olivia Palermo wore M&S Autograph’s real suede skirt at New York fashion week, M&S knew they had struck gold. Since then IT girl Alexa Chung was spotted wearing it, and fashion editors and bloggers a like have written and tweeted about it.
Customers were able to register their interest online and though it was advertised to go on sale on 14th May, it actually hit the stores this weekend! Store staff reported that despite the £199 price tag, the first skirt was sold in minutes of the store opening and the Limited Edition faux suede version, a snip at £39.50, has now sold out.
So why have M&S finally got it right, when they so often get it so so wrong?
Well for a start this piece is bang on trend, with its square front pockets and centre spilt it does the 1970’s retro vibe so well. They have been brave making it in real suede as they haven’t compromised on fabric quality, giving the customer a piece of clothing to invest in and not the throw away fashion we are all so used to. But most importantly they have managed to produce a garment that is, within reason, ageless. The midi length is very of this moment but won’t scare away the older customer. So well done M&S for finally giving us a piece of clothing we really really want!
If you can’t get your hands on M&S’s suede skirt (real or faux) then try out some of these other versions.
