Do you love your clothes? That might seem and odd question, buy why do we buy clothes? Is it for a functional purpose, because it is the latest thing, or maybe because we know it’ll put a smile on our face? The temptation I face, is to buy clothes just because everyone else has them. I fear being the odd one out. But did you know four out of every five adults in the UK have clothes in their wardrobe that they haven’t worn for at least a year? I am certainly guilty of that. In the lead up to Valentines Day Love Your Clothes are asking us to “celebrate the clothes we already have and fall in love again with our wardrobes.”
#WearTheLove
They have launched a competition to win a £250 Virgin Experience Day voucher to find the best-loved stories about clothes. All you have to do is to take a photo, or if you’re tech savvy, make a short video of an item of clothing you love wearing and tell Love Your Clothes why. They suggest that it “could be a great vintage find, a favourite hand-made piece, a garment handed down through the generations, or just something that makes you feel wonderful every time you’re together. The important thing is that you love to wear it, and truly make the most of that item.”
I’ve picked my fur gilet jacket. It’s an upcycled vintage gilet, which I bought the first year Dr husband and I were married. It was late September, but one of those incredible Indian summer days. I’d just bought a new bicycle, so we cycled to Somerset House for London Fashion Weekend. It was here I spotted the gilet. I love it because it is so warm (yes I’m guilty, it’s real fur) and versatile. I wear it in so many different ways, sometimes over a wool coat in the depths of winter, or with a tea dress on a cool summer’s evening.
