This year has completely flown by, yet this week Laurie turned 1. So, I thought you might like to see a few pictures of his birthday.
It’s been quite a year. At aged six weeks we moved house. To say it was quite overwhelming is an understatement. I recall retreating to my (new) bedroom with Laurie after Dr. Husband announced he was removing a window to get the fridge/freezer in. Yet Laurie’s taken it all in his stride, calming watching us all with his big blue eyes and cheerful smile. He’s suffered from extreme love from his sister, cuddles around the neck, being sat and jumped on with remarkable good humour. And I discovered the only thing that really gets him down is depriving him of food!
Making the Cake
Now talking of food, I was determined to make him a cake. But as many of you know baking has never been my strong point. My sponges are consistently unrisen and tough. But after a cry for help on instagram, the owner of beautiful cake and desert company Sweet Elements London gave me detailed instructions of how to bake the perfect sponge. And actually I don’t think it turned out too badly. Did you know you need to beat the eggs and sugar for 5 mins until very pale? Or add one egg at a time until fully incorporated? Me neither, I just used to bung it all in a food processor and hope for the best!
Cake Toppers
Aria Lily Designs came to the rescue with the decoration and at break neck speed (1 day!) turned around the fabulous green sparkly cake topper, declaring Laurie is one! Do check out her Etsy shop as she has a wonderful choice of affordable cake toppers for all occasions and you can personalise and pick your colour of sparkly card.
The Outfit
His sleepsuit was sent to us by The Bright Company, who’ll I’ll be telling you much more about soon. But for the meantime I’ll just let on that they combine seriously good design with an ethical and ecofriendly approach to manufacturing. Yes it is of course made from organic cotton. Music to my ears!
