As I sit here and write the crickets are ticking away, and a lizard slithers surreptitiously by… oh and did I mention it’s 37 degrees in the shade? Your inbox may have been empty of N4 Mummy posts for a while as Daisy, James and I have relocated to the Charente region in the South of France for the week. Bliss. To the horror of several colleagues, Daisy and I took #slow or #greentravel to the extreme, conserving our carbon footprint through use of the traditional car (??) and ferry combo. I’m not sure what made passers-by laugh more: the sight of my daughter strutting her stuff, bottom in the air, doing her funny walk-like crawl, reins firmly attached to prevent any trips overboard; or my mother struggling to keep up with her. You’ll note the absence of my husband from this scene, who wisely opted to work an extra day and travel down by Eurostar.
One thing I love about this part of the world, apart from the weather, wine, cheese and Pineau, is the beautiful scenery. Ferragut, where we are staying, is a tiny hamlet of about six houses literally in the middle of nowhere. For miles all you can see are fields and fields of sunflowers and in early July they are out in abundance. So I thought they would be a great backdrop for my latest purchase. Unusually for me top and shoes are both from Boden. One of my current mini obsessions is with all items embroidered. Most summers I’ll buy a white on white embroidered top or dress, but this year it’s the coloured embroidery that really feels new. I love the colours on this top from Boden, the combination of the lime geo embroidered motifs with the powder blue scalloping.
The chambray joggers are from H&M’s conscious range. H&M have a vision of ‘ultimately making fashion sustainable and sustainability fashionable’ and their conscious range is their first step towards doing this. Items from this range are ethical, climate smart, use natural resources responsibly and help to strengthen communities. Whilst I wholeheartedly applaud their intentions, the fact they have started doing this range makes me question what problems exist in the supply chain of the rest of their clothes?
Aquazzura started the tie up shoe revolution, and I couldn’t resist Boden’s pointy shoe version, deliberating for several hours over whether to buy the navy or metallic silver version. A pointy pair of shoes is without a doubt a wardrobe staple as they give you the illusion of having longer legs, which if you are on the small side of average like me, is always a benefit!
So it’s au revoir from moi for the time being, I think it’s probably time to refill my glass.
