I’ve had such a lovely morning. The sun is shining, I’ve been very productive and I’ve even had time to drop a cake into a friend whose son currently has chicken pox. I feel good.
The truth be told. I like to be in control. To be on top of life, work and to feel like I am a good, kind friend. Don’t we all? As Twiglet’s arrival creeps up on me at #38weekspregnant, I realise that very soon I am going to be in that needy place. Friends will be bringing me cake; homemade dinners will only grace our table if someone else provides them. (Let’s hope Dr. Husband makes me proud!) I’m going to have to rely on friends and family to help look after Daisy, whilst I get my head round having 2 children. That frightens me, accepting help from others.
But why do we choose to live so independently? Why are we so scared of people seeing us out of control? Viewing the cracks in our imperfect lives? I am terribly guilty of it, presenting a perfect view of n4 life on Instagram. A dear friend and fellow pregnant blogger @eat.wear.travel recently wrote a blog post on the realities of pregnancy for her. The bits no one tells you. Click here to read it, it’s eye opening and wonderfully honest.
Being vain 😉, one of the key things I worried about when getting pregnant was the amount of weight I would put on; and crucially the world seeing it, online. But I have discovered some great pregnancy clothing that doesn’t make me feel so whale like. Jo Jo Maman Bebe have just brought out their AW16 maternity range, and I’ve been living their black dungarees. There’s plenty of stretch in the material, so they are super comfy. Plus even at #38weekspregnant I fit into my usual pre pregnancy size, which does a lot for the old self-esteem. I’ve matched it with this grey and black stripe top, which is perfect with a big bump as it is long enough to fully cover it. It also has handy side ties to adjust the length as your bump grows. Jo Jo Maman Bebe do this top in a blue and white Breton too, but I resisted the temptation as I own so many already.
My promise to you is to try not to sugar coat Twiglet’s birth, as I know that when people are real it is decidedly refreshing.
