You fill in the dots, what is it you are longing to wear? Personally I’m sick to death of wearing a jeans and jumper combo. Whilst I’ve become pretty nifty at making most outfits work for breastfeeding, the one item that really doesn’t is a dress.
So since the sun has come out I’ve strategically planned my day so I can put on this fab Deborah Campbell Atelier ‘Summer Breeze’ shift dress. I love the straight shift shape, and gorgeous abstract print in soft blues and yellows.
And this isn’t just any dress. Featured in John Lewis’ Loved and Found collection, this dress is ethically made from recycled plastic bottles. The fabric is, appropriately, called “newlife”. It looks and feels like satin silk, but is much more practical as it is machine washable and eco friendly. Working alongside abstract artist Tabitha Wilson, Deborah Campbell is transforming art into one-of-a-kind garments and is essentially turning our waste into fashion.
Because I’ve so enjoyed wearing a dress again, I’ve been experimenting with different ways of wearing it.
The Leather Jkt
Add a leather biker jkt to any outfit and it immediately gives the outfit a rock chic vibe. I probably should have added red lipstick to have finished the look, but my excuse is ….. x 2 kids. The back pack here is from Matt & Nat, an ethical & sustainable accessories brand. All their products are vegan and the linings of all their bags are also made from recycled plastic bottles!
The Hightops
A beautiful dress doesn’t have to be worn in a traditional manner. Heels and a cover up are suitable for a wedding, but you want a dress to be versatile, so for day to day wear it with high tops and a grey sweatshirt. Easy wardrobe staples that add a touch of the ordinary to something beautiful. The sunglasses pictured were featured in last week’s Edit, please click here to read it. They are from TOMS and the sale of them provides sight to a person in need #OneforOne.
The chunky jumper
Very few dresses are cold weather England friendly. So the only solution is to pop a chunky jumper over the top. To make sure it’s still all about the dress, ensure your jumper is plain.
The Summer Breeze collection which includes a top, skirt and dress can be bought at deborahcampbellatelier.com or johnlewis.com
