Do you trust the packaging of food in the super market? Is that cereal really healthy, or is it actually packed full of refined sugars? These days I find knowing what I should or shouldn’t eat, what is or isn’t healthy really stressful. There are so many eating fads, contradictory newspaper articles that my mind goes into a spin. That said, I would like to eat well and most importantly to give my children food that is healthy and nutritious. Which is why I’d like to tell you about Whatsinit.
“Whatsinit are simplifying food labels once and for all”
Love Food | Trust Food
Whatsinit is a free app that explains the ingredients in your food, colour-codes them and then helps you to decide whether or not you should buy it. Best of all you can personalise it according to your dietary requirements, i.e. vegetarian, gluten free etc. And it doesn’t just focus on the fat, sugar and calories content, the app looks at what the actual ingredients are and gives the item of food a score out of 10. The app has been developed by Temi (a university researcher) and web designer Rob, in collaboration with nutritionists. Whatsinit are simplifying food labels once and for all, to help you eat healthily.
“Whatsinit want everyone to rediscover their love for healthy food that tastes great.”
The Whatsinit assistant
Currently Temi & Rob are working on a Whatsinit assistant, which is a non-evasive browser assistant that works in the background whilst you do your online shop. It will then colour code your food choices and suggest alternative healthy food options for your unhealthy choices. These food swaps have been scrutinised by professionals and are from small British producers producing great tasting healthy food. Our family has been trying a few of the swaps out, and my personal favourite is the JimJams Hazelnut Chocolate Spread with 83% less sugar. Daisy loves Gregory’s Tree Double Fruit Twists as a snack after pre-school, and my husband Spoon’s Muesli: The Nutty One with puffed quinoa, nuts, spices and no dried fruit! Whatsinit want everyone to rediscover their love for healthy food that tastes great. Do watch this short video below to see the assistant in action:
Support Whatsinit
And Whatsinit needs your help! Until 28th March 2018 they are crowd funding to raise £10,000 to be able to launch the app. In return for your support, you’ll be sent delicious artisanal foods to enjoy. So do head over to their Crowdfunder page now!
Looks interesting!
Maybe we also need an app to scan items in the supermarket for those of us who still do an old fashioned shop.
