In 1996 I was thirteen and the fashion was for crop tops to show off your belly. By the time I got to the age of fifteen, it was all about showing off your long (or in my case not so long) legs by rolling up your school skirt. When I was pregnant last year in an attempt to show off my bump and not to look like an oversized whale, I took to wearing bodycon clothes. Admittedly my reasons for showing off my bump weren’t totally pure, a seat on the tube? “Yes please”! Why was it that only women ever offered me a seat? – I better not get started as that could be a whole other blog post. Anyway, this Spring/Summer the body parts we are being asked to show off is, wait for it, ….. yes our knees. We are being asked to get our knees out. Thankfully my knee cap is probably the only part of me that didn’t put on any weight or get totally misshapen after having Daisy; so I feel it is a safe bodily part to show off to the world!
So what should our ripped knee denim jeans look like?
Super skinny and super high waisted, Topshop’s Joni Jeans are really flattering for hiding any post baby bump. Also if you’re experiencing any post pregnancy back ache? My yoga teacher assures me that tight fitting jeans are the way forward, as they hold you together and remind you to pull up your pelvic floor! Bizarre as it sounds, I have had trouble with my back and it does help. Price £38.
Seeing as I am now a Mum I should probably invest in a pair of Mom Jeans with rips, I like Asos‘ ones as they are very slimline. The design of Mom jeans means that unless you have long legs and a model like figure they emphasise your hips, so a slim pair will help to reduce this. Price £35.
For proper “old skool” skater style, New Look’s Boyfriend ripped jeans are the way forward. I attended New Look’s SS15 Press Day back in November and it was evident that they will be bringing in more rips on all shapes of jeans as the summer progresses. Price £26.99.
If you want to go super mad with rips then Zara’s high rise skinny jeans are the way forward. Personally I love the jeans nearly falling off your legs look, only I might save wearing these until summer when my legs are much much more likely to be shaved! Price £29.99.
