Father’s Day Gift Ideas For Wonderful Dads

We never really celebrated Father’s Day growing up, my mum thought it American and just another excuse to buy buy buy. I hear her. But since having my own kids, I see just how hard my husband works. Juggling his career and wanting to really be there for the kids. Plus, let’s face it most of his salary goes on replacing windows, playing for gymnastics, swimming, holidays, basically not on himself. So, this year I think we need to celebrate him. Now, you know I’m a firm believer that we can make a real difference with where we spend our money. So, here’s my suggestions for Father’s Day gift ideas all from small independent brands. And if you’re after other gift ideas for friends, family, etc then do have a read of my Ultimate Ethical Gift Guide for more ideas.

Gifted Local

You know I’m a big fan of shopping local. There are just soo many benefits, where do I start? It supports the local economy and can create jobs, less shipping means a reduced carbon impact, you are supporting local artists and it’s just a much more personal way to shop. Have I convinced you yet? Well the ladies at Gifted Local don’t need convincing, in fact their entire online boutique is based on the idea that you can buy artisan gifts from people locally. They currently cover Crouch End, Finchley, Highgate/Archway, Muswell Hill, Queens Park, Tottenham, Willesden & Harlesden & Wood Green. And they have a whole section of Father’s Day gift ideas, everything from homemade baked brownies, to a garden in a bulb. And if you don’t live locally, well as Gifted Local is online you can still shop here too. Do have a browse.

The Social Supermarket

The Social Supermarket is an online store that sells everything from food and drink through to gifts and clothing. And all the brands they stock are social enterprises. Which basically just means brands who’s mission is to be a force for good through trade. They have a special Father’s Day selection with hampers and gift ideas for every type of Dad & every wallet. They sent us the Garden Lover Hamper*, which was such a treat. A few highlights include, award winning sparkling wine from North London vineyard Forty Hall, organic plum & brand jam which stops food going to waste and bee socks that donate to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. And if you fancy 10% off then do use code KARENSENTME.

Mr B’s Emporium

Move over Netflix and get your head stuck into a fabulous book with Mr B’s Emporium monthly reading subscriptions. This would make such a wonderful father’s day gift, and I say this as someone whose just finished their first ever 6 month reading subscription. It starts with a simple questionnaire about reading likes and dislikes and then the reader is assigned their very own bibliotherapist who selects a surprise book to be sent out each month. It’s a great way to discover new authors and rediscover a love of reading. Subscriptions come in 3, 6 & 11 month packages. Oh and if you live in/near bath, you could even pop in to the real store (such a novelty!)

£ – From £50 (for a three month subscription)

Introduce your Dad to Plastic Free Living

There’s nothing like a present to kick start a new habit, so this Father’s Day could be a great opportunity to introduce your father/kid’s father to plastic free living. There are lots of online plastic free stores which have some great Father’s Day gift ideas. But &Keep* are one of my favourites, mainly because they sell the most brilliant leak free reusable cup*. I’ve written about them before (click here to read) and they have a great affordable selection of gifts, everything from seeded Father’s Day cards, to boxer shorts, plastic free men’s deodorant and shampoo bars. Have a look here at their Father’s Day gift ideas.

DIY Present

You don’t have to spend any money at all. Some of the best presents are the free ones; a homemade card, a baked yummy treat, breakfast in bed with a newspaper or taking him for a beer at his favourite pub (ok so the last one involved spending money) Bascially just something to show your Dad just how brilliant he really is and how much you care for him.
