Being at home with Daisy has meant I’ve started to notice all the things about our flat that look tired and need refreshing. Print designer Amy Sia has just launched her new collection of cushions, and the beauty of them
has inspired me to update our flat. Her prints are an explosion of colour and energy. N4 Mummy has an exclusive interview with Amy & pictures of the new collection!
Amy, tell us about yourself
I studied fashion design at university in Australia & made the switch to print design when I moved to London 4 years ago. I license my artwork, and manufacture my own line of homewares and accessories.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am inspired by the beauty of God’s creation, the natural world is full of so many stunning things. I love looking at textiles of other cultures, art and fashion too! Mostly I just paint what I feel like!
How do you create your cushion prints?
Most of my prints start as paintings. I use a mixture of materials, but my favourite thing to work with are inks. Sometimes I do marbling, or work with a photo I have taken. The original image is then scanned and then manipulated in Photoshop.
If you could have your cushions stocked in one shop, where would it be and why?
Liberty, it’s one of my favourite stores in London; full of interesting eclectic special treasures and they have a history of supporting British design.
What has been the main challenge setting up your own business?
Perseverance! When things are hard it can be tempting to give up, also it can be difficult to switch off and maintain a good work life balance. I am a little extreme, I am either working non-stop or I find it hard to get motivated at all!
Thank you Amy, Here are a selection of N4 Mummy’s favourites:
