The summer has finally arrived, and in a bid to buy less but to select well I have looked at ethical brands to see what they have on offer. Brands that are trend driven and give good quality garments, but who consider the social and environmental impact of their businesses. So today I am bringing you my top picks:
Hand made Chain Detail Bangle from People Tree, £18.
I love the simplicity of this bangle. People Tree are without a doubt the pioneer of Fair Trade and sustainable fashion in the UK. This bangle is made by Bombolulu, a Fair Trade social business in Kenya, who provide opportunities for people with physical disabilities.
Margarita Espadrilles from Bibico, £39.
Created in partnership with Liberty of London, these flower printed espadrilles will be in my suitcase for my next holiday. Bibico is the home of simple, stylish clothes and accessories made from natural fabrics from Fair Trade cooperatives.
Hand Printed Linen Tea Towels from Kiran Ravilious, £60.
OK so you can’t wear these, but these prints will certainly cheer up any kitchen. Kiran Ravilious uses traditional lino printmaking techniques to create her bright and vibrant hand printed designs. All her work is printed and made in the UK.
Barbara from Beaumont Organic, £109.
A white cotton T is without a doubt a wardrobe staple, this oversized boxy shape is relevant now, and the pretty embroidered sleeve is feminine. Beaumont Organic is a luxury ready to wear label, providing contemporary clothes responsibly from luxury fabrics.
Desine Skirt by Osei Duro from Gather & See, £45.
Don’t want to be lost at a festival? This is a skirt to make you stand out from the crowd. I love the vibrant colours. Osei Duro’s garments are produced in Ghana, supporting the local apparel industry by using traditional techniques such as hand dyeing and weaving.
