Ethical Clothing Designed for Real Children | Tootsa MacGinty

Creating a clothing range is hard work. I should know, I spent ten years doing so for various UK high street giants. Each style goes through several prototypes to get the fit, colour and print right. And a huge amount of financial investment has to be put into the range before the customer has the chance to buy it. Doing this ethically and with respect to our environment is even more of a challenge, which is why I am always so impressed when an independent brand does it and executes it so well. So today I’d like to introduce you to an independent ethical fashion brand that we currently loving: Tootsa MacGinty.

Awesome bright colours

I love their super bright colours, which makes spotting Daisy & Laurie in the park easy and cheers up my day. Daisy is currently obsessed with pink and would dress head to toe in it if she could. So what’s great is that Tootsa’s clothes have lots of prints, so she gets her dose of pink, but it’s not overload for the rest of us. Just take a look at her water-resistant diamond print jacket, it has every colour of the rainbow in it.

Durability

Key to sustainable clothing is its durability, and my children really put their clothes to the test. This is the second season of Tootsa MacGinty’s clothes that’s we’ve owned, and I am happy to say that they wash well without shrinking, and can withstand endless trips down the slide and falling over. These are high quality garments designed to last. But I don’t think durability is the only thing that makes something sustainable. What the garments are made from is also really important. A large part of Tootsa MacGinty’s range is made from 100% organic cotton, please click here to see why I think that is important. On a slightly different note, Tootsa’s clothes do run slightly on the slim side. So, if you have a chunky boy like mine, do size up. Daisy however, always wears her normal size.

Genuine unisex styling

Laurie is already wearing some of Daisy’s hand me downs, so where possible I do try to buy unisex clothes for the kids. This is actually harder than it sounds with a little girl who refuses to wear black, navy blue, denim or any basic neutral colours. So what’s great about Tootsa MacGinty’s clothing is that the fun prints & styles have colours in them that appeal to a child’s imagination regardless of their sex. Laurie will be wearing Daisy’s raincoat when he turns three, though not the dress. However I will definitely be passing his blue & white striped linen trousers as well as his fab bear sweatshirt down to his cousin Lottie.

Ethical clothing for real kids

Tootsa MacGinty excel with the fun factor for kids. Just take Laurie’s bear jumper, whose mouth opens to reveal an impressive set of teeth! Another favourite is the bright yellow face jumper that when you open the concealed pocket sticks out its bright red tongue. This jumper has caused hilarity in the n4mummy household.

A fab sale

Oh and I just have to point out that Tootsa Tot’s summer range is now up to 50% off in the sale, so if you have a little one under the age of two do head over to their website and grab a bargain. Sale ends on 8th May 2018.
