Do you wish were the size, weight, shape of your pre pregnancy self? Yes, me too. I look at pictures of myself mid twenties and wonder how I could ever have had issues with my body image.
Those of you who know me well will know that I have two children, Daisy and Laurie. After Laurie was born I was determined to get back my pre baby body. I initially tried the Belly Bandit which is a spandy wrap to ‘help tighten and shrink your belly, waist and hips post pregnancy’ and whilst it had some effect 18 months on and I’m still not quite there. If you’d like to read my review of the Belly Bandit please click here.
There are many reasons for this, but exhaustion, lack of time and a love of chocolate are probably the largest contributing factors. If you’ve had a baby you may well be able to relate.
The Solution
I’d love to tell you I’ve found a solution, and in some ways I have, but it’s not the solution I originally expected. Last November I met Wendy Powell founder of MUTU System, who spent a day teaching a few mamas including good friends Emma from Finlay Fox, Emma from The Joy of Five and Nadia from Scandi Mummy. She taught us about what’s physically happened to our bodies postpartum and empowering us that we can change it. After watching Embrace the Documentary, we also spent time talking about body image, and the pressure put on us to look a certain way which is unrealistic. If you haven’t seen this film, or heard of it do head over the Body Image Movement website as I highly recommend it. It is very challenging.
MUTU System
Since November I’ve been following the MUTU system. It’s a series of simple exercises designed to strengthen your pelvic floor and heal diastasis recti. And don’t worry I’ve got a special discount code, so you can ditch that post baby tummy too. Skip to the bottom of the page if you are just interested in that!
Diastasis Recti
Diastasis recti, what on earth is that? I hear you say. Well, it’s the separation of your tummy muscles that occurs during pregnancy and gives you that pop belly look. It’s the reason that no matter how slim or fit you get your tummy will still protrude. And interestingly, with the wrong type of exercise our stomach’s will actually stick out further.
If you think you’ve got diastasis recti, you probably have, but you can diagnose and MUTU System will tell you how self diagnose.
A Body That Works
But it’s not just about appearances; it’s also about your body functioning as it should. As busy mums we deserve bodies that work correctly. Post baby you may have found that you have less control over your bladder. Jumping on a trampoline or laughing hysterically can result in little accidents! This is all because your pelvic floor muscle isn’t working as it should.
And did you know your pelvic floor muscle is connected to your tummy muscles? So if your pelvic floor isn’t working properly, then you’ll never have a flat tummy. The genius of MUTU system is that it’s a series of exercises designed to help you reconnect these muscles.
So What Is It?
The MUTU system consists of weekly modules with different elements. There are activities that you are required to do daily: walking, an 11 minute strengthening of your core, and eating the right foods. In addition, three times a week you do an intensive workout. It is a commitment, but it’s about taking time as a mum to look after yourself and your body. And kids and husbands alike will benefit. If you’d like to find out more about MUTU System do please click here. I’ve written another post talking through my experiences of doing it, and showing you my before and after picture (eek!) So if you fancy a read, do click here.
How Much Does MUTU System Cost?
It’s just a one off payment of £99 for lifetime access. But please note the kit bag does cost you extra. But I do have a special discount code for you.
