As the eldest, my daughter Daisy usually dominates most things. However, when it comes to the kids’ bedroom I’m determined that this will be the exception. If Daisy had it her way the walls would be pink, as would the bedding, toys and carpet. Yes she is a walking stereotype, but thankfully without a bank balance!
Last year I wrote a blog post all about creating an ethical unisex nursery, using only ethical and sustainable brands. If you’d like to read that post please click here. However, I felt Laurie’s side of the room looked a little bare so I’ve added a few more pieces. Do read to the end as there’s a fab discount to be had. In keeping with the n4mummy ethos, I again have only used ethical, sustainable and independent brands who deliver the highest quality of products. I’m hoping you’re going to love them as much as I do. Here are the pieces I’ve added:
Organic Bedding
At 18 months Laurie has graduated to a proper pillow and duvet, it’s made me realise he’s not a baby any more. His gorgeous organic bedding is from Tinyppl. The duvet has a delightfully simple graphic print in grey and yellow on one side and a matching plain grey backing. The print features mini moons, stars, beds and a teddy, childlike but without being remotely cutesy. The bedding is beautifully made with French seams.
Sustainable How? All Tinyppl’s bedding is made from 100% organic cotton and is hand screen printed using herbal inks. This is important, as it is perfectly possible to have something that is made from organic cotton, but printed or dyed using synthetic dyes (commonly Azo Dyes) which are reported to be harmful. If you’d like to read why I think buying organic cotton is important, please click here.
Ethical How? The organic bedding is ethically made in a Fair Trade factory in India, where they also have a program to teach women to sew, using the left over fabric from production.
Sleepy Fox Cushion
This adorably playful sleepy fox cushion, is a comfy addition to Laurie’s bed, and is also from Tinyppl. I love the fact it adds a pop of colour that isn’t pink (!) Again it’s made from 100% organic cotton, and is produced here in the UK.
Industrial Light
I’m a huge fan of the industrial interior trend that’s been around for a while, and this brightly coloured yellow pendent Rosa light is from Urban Cottage Industries. This light comes in blue, pink, yellow and grey with different coloured cables that can either be 1 or 2 meters long, depending on your preference. We had great fun deciding how to hang the light with its 2m black & white striped cable. Urban Cottage Industries sell the light bulbs to go with it, and I opted for an LED-filament bulb to complete the industrial look.
Ethical How? Urban Cottage Industries get big high-five from me for not only being the first accredited Living Wage employer in the UK, but also declaring that all their shareholders, directors and employees pay tax here. I know a few companies who could follow their example, mentioning no names…..
Wooden Names
Daisy & Laurie’s wooden wall letters are from Fox & Weave, who produce personalised wall art. You may recall, I featured these back in December as we gave them to them in their Christmas stockings. To read that post please click here. Since then, Daisy has learnt to write her name, all be it backwards sometimes, so she was over the moon to see her name up on her bedroom wall.

Wall Artwork
Laurie’s Twinkle Twinkle, Rocket and To The Moon & Back are all from Tinyppl. I love the monochrome minimalism of these pictures. Currently Laurie’s favourite song is Twinkle Twinkle, he can’t speak yet but he can sing that song. Founder Lu, of Tinyppl, designs all of her products herself including these prints. So, you can request personalised artwork: genius.

Daisy’s flamingo picture is made using a papercut technique, by Ellie akka @rainydaybrigade. It was a gift, but I am excited to tell you that Ellie will be launching an Etsy shop selling her papercut artwork soon. In the meantime check out her beautiful work over on Instagram.

Wall Stickers
The sprinkle wall stickers are hand illustrated and are from Happy Decs. They come in all shapes, sizes and colours from spots, to stars, hearts and lightning, plus many more. You can pick from an extensive colour chart and they cost from just £19.99, so it’s a really affordable way of jazzing up a room. Also, please note these are removable, which is great because they aren’t permanent, but if you have a particularly creative child you may need to stop them rearranging them!
