This was the week. The week when after an entire year I was able to eat chocolate again. I’ll admit, being pregnant and chocolate free has been challenging. For those of you that don’t know me, after the birth of Daisy Dr. Husband foolishly bet me that I wasn’t able to give up chocolate for a year. The reward? A gold bracelet, which he has bought but hasn’t arrived yet! Err Humm!
The return to a chocolate diet has been a welcome relief, particularly as Daisy’s molars have been coming through, so sleep at night hasn’t be guaranteed. As a result we decided that a relaxed approach to the bank holiday weekend, was the only way forward. But, the difficultly with dressing a #24week bump (+ extra chocolate), is that lose relaxed clothing can just make you feel like a lump, which does zero for self-confidence.
So I opted for non-maternity joggers that taper in at the ankle and have that all-important elasticated waist. Bought over 5 years ago from Urban Outfitters, they are my go to relaxed trouser, particularly when pregnant, as they don’t cling at the thigh. Essential. The white T pictured is my only concession to maternity wear, as my bump is now at the stage where normal tops don’t quite cover it. The cardi, is my one item of luxury, it’s an incredibly soft 100% cashmere wrap from online brand – London W11.
Being an ex knitwear buyer, has made me a bit of a yarn snob. My preference is always be to buy one beautiful cashmere jumper, over several acrylic versions. A high quality yarn, might cost more initially but is far warmer, and will be a wardrobe staple for years to come. This wrap is a great versatile shape as it’s big enough to be worn with or without a bump. But has the added benefit of partly concealing it too. Italian made and conceived by cashmere specialist Eva-Maria Khan, London W11’s cashmere is of the highest quality. Normally, the fibres from four goats go into a single cashmere jumper, yet Eva-Maria ensures the fibres from eight goats go into each cashmere item. A mother of three she also donates £20 from each purchase of cashmere to the NSPCC.
