The Breton Stripe

The French do style effortlessly and the ultimate steal from them has to be the Breton Stripe. There’s no other item of clothing that so clearly year upon year signals the start of Spring and conjures up nautical images as the beloved Breton Stripe. A little fact for you to store away is that the original Breton Stripe had to have exactly 21 stripes, one for each of Napoleon’s victories!

The Breton Stripe is an absolute wardrobe staple, the combinations for styling are endless and it’s an item you can bring out time and time again. Layer it up with a your favourite white cotton shirt, or, as an easy day-to-night outfit, wear with tailoring and add a leather biker jacket. A Breton Stripe should be considered a neutral so add a splash of colour with a brightly coloured coat or bag or shoes (not all three as that would be overload!). For an easy off-duty look, one that as a mum I increasingly need, wear it with a pair of boyfriend ripped jeans and white trainers. As I said the options are endless.
