My children are always far more ready to develop to the next stage of life than I am. Daisy effectively potty trained herself, and Laurie decide to wake four times a night to tell me that he needed real food.
Makes Weaning Easy
I confess I just didn’t know how I was going to cope with weaning Laurie, whilst keeping a toddler entertained and out of harms way. However I have discovered that it’s all ok because of the Wonder Machine (my name). Béaba’s Babycook is a 4-in-1 food processor which steams, cooks, blends, defrosts and reheats. In fact the only thing it doesn’t do is wash itself up. I absolutely love it, because it has made weaning so easy.
Quick Meals
All you have to do is cut up the fruit / veg / meat / fish, pop it in the machine and 15 mins later it’s steamed. As you know steaming is by far the healthiest way to prepare veg, as it locks in all the nutrients.
Blended to Perfection
You can then blend it to the desired consistency according to your child’s age, i.e. smooth or chunky. Which is great, as if you’ve had an experience of weaning you’ll know that it’s all about getting the right texture.
A Healthy Alternative
I am guilty of giving far too many Ella’s Kitchen pouches to my kids. But let’s be honest even their vegetable recipes are mainly full of apple. When you’re making your own puree you can do any combination you like, in whatever ratio. Laurie’s enjoyed sweet potato and apple, butternut squash & carrot and a pudding of berries and apple that Daisy happily finished off for him.
Cooks Real Meals
In two weeks Laurie went from eating fruit and vegetables to an entire meal of chicken curry! And the great thing is that this machine will also cook an entire meal in one pot. Genius.
Great Accessories
Béaba have also created some great weaning accessories, the spoons are the just the right depth for little mouths, and I particularly like their multi portion storage. The lid securely clips on, meaning you could travel with it or if it got knocked in your fridge / freezer it wouldn’t spill. It’s been tried and tested as we travelled from London to Newcastle with it without incident!
The Downside?
Perhaps the only downside is the cost. At £119 (John Lewis) it isn’t cheap, however, if you fed your child on three pouches a day it would take just over a month to regain the cost value, and if you have more than one child….. well need I say more? You can also buy accessories like the rice cooker which makes cooking small amounts of rice or pasta easy. Although we haven’t used this for Laurie yet, it’s been perfect for Daisy. Plus we’ve taken to steaming veg for ourselves in it too, e.g. mange tout, broccoli and edamame beans, so it will have life beyond the weaning stage.

The Babycook was gifted to me by Babe but all opinions are my own.
The machine of this type provides an easy and fast process of cooking. This is especially important and necessary if you have a baby.
