Ok so I’m not talking about the song we used to sing in Brownies, do you remember waddley-acha, doodly doo, doodly doo? Rather the wonderful organic children’s wear brand – Doodle Do. I have a terrible memory, but there’s something about songs learnt as a child that just stay with you. Founder, Celsa Efroni, explains that her latest Spring/Summer 16 range, A Hippie Medley, was inspired by a family trip to Kansa, Goa. “My youngest child was very impressed by the caravans we saw and from there the collection took shape.”
It’s a range that captures the imagination of a child. On our recent trip to France, I was amazed at just how fascinated Daisy was by nature: flowers, ladybirds, sheep (baas, in her language) and dogs all held her enthralled. A Hippie Medley is full of fun prints inspired by the natural world, ladybirds, tortoises, frogs, feathers and caravans all have their part to play. On a practical note, it’s so refreshing for a parent that the most of Doodle Do’s collection is unisex, (yeah!) it also makes it much more sustainable, making it easier to pass clothes down. Organic cotton separates and printed dungarees feature. But as Daisy is continually being mistaken for a boy, I dressed her in the Cloud Mountain Skirt and the eminently suitable Friendly Monster Tee. The tee will clearly work for baby number 2, whom I’m currently calling Twiglet for want of a real name.
You’ll also be delighted to hear that teaching our children to be good stewards of the environment is important to Celsa. Every step of the manufacturing process from the cotton plant through to the branding and packaging meets the standards for GOTS* certification. But what’s equally important is price. T-Shirts start at £16 and though the knitwear is slightly more expensive starting at £31 for a baby romper, it’s all hand-knitted here in the UK.
