After a crazily busy few weeks in the world of fashion, Dr. Husband, Daisy and I took a well-earned break to the country. No mobile phone signal, tick, no Tesco’ Express, tick, just acres and acres of beautiful moorland. Don’t worry; it did have Wi-Fi so we could binge watch Deutschland 83. Have you seen it? Cold War, spy thriller set in East/West Germany, excellent, check it out on Channel 4’s On Demand.
I digress; we went into the heart of Dartmoor and chose to stay in a beautiful converted watermill called Water Barn. I have a belief that wherever I go on holiday needs to be nicer than where I live, so no camping for me. The cottage lived up to expectation. It was immaculately clean, full of natural light, thoughtfully decorated and our host had thought of everything we might need, including dishwasher tablets. Opposite little lambs were stabled, and there were Pony’s in the field next door. Daisy’s obsession with animals, particularly dogs grew. We could step outside our cottage and walk for miles, which was just sheer bliss.
I’ve reached that funny stage in pregnancy where maternity jeans fall down and my current jeans can’t be buttoned comfortably, so I spent the week using an elastic hairband to compensate. I’m also pulling out all my low wasited trousers that sit below my protruding bump. My shorter jumpers are starting to ride up, so I found the perfect solution – Dr. husband’s jumpers. He was not best pleased, but it’s a cheap and definitely eco-friendly option. Wellies and my trusty Barbour jacket have become my wardrobe staples for a week in the country. The red lippy may have been slightly unnecessary, but thankfully we didn’t come across any roaming bulls.
We used a company called Helpful Holidays, mainly because their cottages are good value, essential when you’re on one salary, and they make is so easy to find a place that’s suitable for children. On their website there is a section where you can tick exactly what you need, high chair, cot, stair gates etc. For more pictures and to see where we stayed, please click here.

What beautiful holiday diary!
But camping, one can afford longer holidays and it’s clutter-free and all your own gear. I know that most of our family think I’m crazy…………
Lots of love

Thanks Liz, I’m glad you love camping and you’re right you can go away for much longer, but I think camping was doomed for our family the time we went away and got so wet that the water came through our groundsheet, sleeping mat and our sleeping bags ended up soaked. x
Love the picture of the three pairs of wellies.
