A Summer in the 90’s

The shops are full to the brim with 70’s boho clothing; palazzo trousers, fedora hats, playsuits, flares and fringing (this list could go on), and yet the 90’s still holds a special place in my heart. I recall driving down the road in my mum’s battered, very square looking, green Volvo, in the days when old bangers were two a penny and a ‘new’ car a rarity. Windows down, Pulp Fiction’s Common People blaring on the radio, I was 17 and life was good.

So as the sun started to shine here in London, I couldn’t help but ignore the high street’s insistence that it’s all about the 70’s, and opt for something different; an outfit with a hint of nostalgia, an outfit that conjures up a summer in the 90’s.

imageThis geo patterned white broderie T, from Zara, has seen many outings so far this summer. It is a great length, long enough to meet my jeans but short enough to feel contemporary. I like the boxy cropped shape. The vintage washed Levi’s jacket originally belonged to my friend Matt, but his wife, Lauren, commandeered it and then added darts to it to make it more fitted and feminine. A garment with a history, always good.

Shoes from Pieces. The skater is such an easy slip-on shoe, and because you can pretty much wear it with anything, has become (for me) a wardrobe essential.

imageThe white skinny jeans are my one concession to #fastfashion. A bargain from New Look, they do not stand a chance of lasting even one season if my 11 month old daughter, Daisy, has anything to do with it. The only hint of boho comes in the form of this beaded box bag, seasons old (literally) it’s an old favourite from Zara. I think that can counts as #sustainablefashion, don’t you?
