Denim Culottes | French Style

Do you ever wake up, open your wardrobe and conclude you have nothing to wear? I do frequently. For those days I have a few ‘go to’ outfits that never disappoint. A Breton stripe top with denim is my absolute failsafe. It’s a classic combination and yet still manages to tick every box on the trend scale. Since owning these culottes from Laura Ashley, they’ve replaced my usual skinny jeans. They add a much more contemporary feel to the look. I love the ¾ length and flared hem, plus they are incredibly comfy and work so well with trainers.

Now, you don’t need me to gush over the virtues of a Breton stripe top. It goes without saying that it’s an essential wardrobe staple. But I would like to mention that I like Laura Ashley’s version for the clean crisp colours, neat shape and their attention to detail. Split side seams and the coloured back neck tape that hides any unsightly seams; excellent. To add a little glam and colour, today I’ve styled it with a square silk scarf. Yes, it’s real silk, I double checked the care label myself. For ease I have just tied it around my neck, but there are so many ways you can style a square scarf. To finish off the look, I’ve opted for the Red Cross Hatch Grab Bag. I just love the colour of this bag, so bright and fun that it adds a splash of colour to the outfit. That said, because the outfit is so classic, I could have equally teamed it with the lime shopper, which would have done just as good a job.
