How to Wear Denim Culottes

Another non bump related style post, my 2nd post that I wrote styling a pair of Laura Ashley denim culottes.

Spring has truly sprung and the sun is shining, which always gives me a bounce in my step. My Laura Ashley denim culottes, as predicted, have proved a useful asset to my summer wardrobe since they are so versatile. The minimal detailing means you can easily dress them up or down. Likewise the cropped length with flared hems is just right for the current weather. I have a small confession that I rather like the fact that they have elastic at the back. It’s like a little secret which only the wearer knows, allowing one to indulge in a decadent pudding or if you’re pregnant, like me, delaying the inevitable maternity clothes.

This morning, I put on my culottes with a floral blouse to brighten up the day with a little colour. Florals in summer are always a key trend. They were in abundance at London Fashion Week, shown by designers such as Erdem, Mary Katrantzou and Emilia Wickstead, and who does them better than the queen of florals, Laura Ashley? On this collarless blouse, the flowers are wonderfully oversized and, in pops of red and blue, giving the print a contemporary feel.

The sunshine always makes me a little bolder with colour, and I’m all in favour of this vibrant orangey/red; it’s bright, fun and adds a pop of “zing” to an outfit. In the same way, a red pair of shoes is an essential item in one’s wardrobe, I believe a red bag is too. This Cross Hatch Grab Bag is a classic design with clean lines and a useful detachable strap. I’ve followed through the red theme to my nails and, of course, lipstick. I love the way a splash of lippy can instantly lift an outfit and give me a little boost of confidence.

I think it’s always wise to have an extra layer with you for chilly evenings. So, I’ve finished the outfit with a denim jacket. I am very glad it has gold buttons, as I am such a gold fiend and nearly always wear gold jewellery with everything. It’s a wonderful warm metallic colour. Ah, eating outside on a summer evening; sheer bliss!
