Pregnancy Style

Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know I’ve spent the last week a la Barcelona with Dr. Husband, childfree. It’s the longest time I’ve spent away from Daisy since her birth, and I confess the freedom was bliss. During the day Dr. Husband was at a liver conference, whilst I toured the sights. Any form of child-induced routine went out of the window. I had no responsibilities, so I could eat whenever I liked and go wherever my legs could carry me. Clearly we took every opportunity to eat out, which was a real treat. One evening we had dinner, with a whole host of Dr’s and Professors. One consultant grabbed my belly and exclaimed that I was “at least 2 weeks further on” than predicted. So watch this space, this little boy might make his entrance sooner than you think.

Pregnancy StyleI admitted last week that my belly is now much too big for most of my normal wardrobe, and so I have accepted the need to wear maternity items. As you know I hate the thought of buying clothes that don’t have longevity, as it just seems such a waste. By default the length of time one can wear a maternity item is relatively short. Even though technically one needs to continue wearing them post baby, I know from experience that you want to be back into normal clothes asap. Thankfully some brands have developed garments suitable for pre and post pregnancy. This jumpsuit from Blooming Marvellous at Mothercare is great because it also doubles up as a breastfeeding item, so I’ll get much more wear out of it. It’s also lightweight and uber comfy, as it’s made from a stretch jersey fabric, which in my current state is essential. Pregnancy complaints are so dull, but body overheating and itchy skin have just been part of the course this pregnancy; delightful.

This trusty jumpsuit saw me wandering the streets of Barcelona’s Exiample district, viewing Antoni Gaudi’s masterpieces. I particularly loved the, lesser known, Casa Batllo, because it looks like something from a fairy-tale. Despite a beautifully sunny day, I wore the jumpsuit with a (non-maternity) denim jacket from Laura Ashley, and a pair of flat(!) cross strap sandals. Little hint, if your jacket is becoming tight, just pop it over your shoulders. It still does the job and looks great. It also safely saw me through a Florence and the Machine gig and survived the odd drink spilt. Clearly it will be Daisy friendly too.
